Make plans to attend our Spring 2018 meeting. The meeting will be held in Columbia, South Carolina from April 24th –April 28th. CMC Steel SC will be hosting the IRD meeting at the Cayce, SC mill.
The Fall 2017 meeting was a great success at VDM Metals in Reno, NV. I would like extend my sincere thanks to Brian Salego and the incredible staff at VDM for hosting the Fall 2017 IRD meeting! Each one who participated from VDM was professional, enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable in each of their respective areas. The folks at VDM did a great job of making our group feel welcome and put on a great tour of their mill. It was a unique experience and their willingness to share and answer questions was appreciated by all.
Technical Sessions: We want to continue filling our technical session with operator, vendor and operator/vendor papers. Many of you are trying new things, equipment, roll materials, tooling, guides, software, monitoring systems, etc.…,. Doing a joint paper with either a vendor or another person from your plant can make that first presentation easier. So please, contact John Ballani, Keith Bacon, Michael Chociej, Ron Walker or Rob Kibler about a paper and share your experiences with us, the positive or negatives. This is how we all learn. Thanks to all those who have presented papers.
For those who attend the Columbia meeting, the Marriott is on historic Main Street. The convenience of the area, the weather and Southern hospitality should make for a great meeting. On Friday, after the mill tour, CMC and the IRD will host lunch at the Columbia Zoo. Everyone will get lunch and zoo tickets. Plan to spend a few hours with friends and colleagues at the Columbia zoo. Transportation will be provided to anyone that does not attend the mill tour and still wants to participate in lunch and the zoo outing.
Also, on Saturday mornings if you are still in Columbia, Main Street closes to host “Soda City” street market. The market is open 9am to 1pm.
It was good to see everyone that attended in Reno, NV and I hope our attendance continues to grow. I want to thank my fellow officers and Chairman for providing the support needed to make these meetings a great success. I look forward to the meetings to come and, with your participation, we can continue to improve and strengthen our membership.
